Hyperloop Test Track Being Built – RTT News

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, a start-up that has adopted Elon Musk’s ambitious project of high-speed transportation system, plans to build a Hyperloop test track in California and completed as early as 2016.

Hyperloop Test Technologies, a crowd-funded company, plans to take Musk’s dream project one more step forward by building a full-scale model on five miles land in California’s Quay Valley, according to tech blog The Verge.

“This installation will allow us to demonstrate all systems on a full scale and immediately begin generating revenues for our shareholders through actual operations,” CEO Dirk Ahlborn said in a statement to Verge.

However, in January, Musk announced his plans to start building his own Hyperloop track in Texas, which would enable companies and student teams to test their pods on the track.

However, Hyperloop Test Technologies claims that their track would be better as it is designed to test human passenger system. The track being only of five miles, it would only reach a top speed of 200mph rather than the 760mph touted by Musk.

“It’s not about speed,” Ahlborn told The Verge. “There are a lot of other things that need to be optimized.”

The Hyperloop system incorporates reduced-pressure tubes in which pressurized capsules ride on a cushion of air that is driven by a combination of linear induction motors and air compressors. The system envisions travel of 760mph.

Musk had unveiled plans for the $6 billion Hyperloop system in 2013. He had published a 57-page plan on both Tesla Motors’ and SpaceX’s blogs, allowing interested parties to use the design. The conceptual Hyperloop route runs from the Los Angeles region to the San Francisco Bay Area, and the system seeks to help travelers cover the distance in 35 minutes.
